Bucket List Skills

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Many people talk about their “bucket list“, or the list of exciting things they want to do and places they want to visit before they die. Another way to look at a bucket list would be things you want to learn how to do,  or ways to challenge your body and mind. Learning a new skill or subject area that is completely foreign to you can be a really fun way to enhance your life and help you to grow into a more well-rounded person. They can also add unexpected excitement to your life as you are led into new hobbies you may have never experienced before. Below are three ideas for new activities to add to your bucket list.

Research stock software and purchase a system that will help you learn to trade in stocks. The stock market is a foreign frontier for most people, but it can be very satisfying to learn how it works. It can also be very exciting if you are able to make a side income, and it might even help to finance some of your other bucket list items.

Learn how to run. Haven’t you always heard about those people who run 5 or 10 miles per day – or more – and thought to yourself, “I wish I could do that”? Unless you have a health condition that prevents you from running, pretty much anyone can actually learn to do this. There are various methods of training that you can research, but they’re all based on the idea of running a bit more each day. It is difficult at first, but you may find that it is addictive and exhilarating. Once you reach your goal, whatever it may be, you will feel a great sense of accomplishment.

Take a community college course in something you’ve always wanted to learn, that is completely opposite from the types of things you normally do. Whether you’re a man who secretly wants to learn ballroom dance, or a woman who wants to try her hand at fencing, learning a new skill will open up your life to new experiences and friendships and lead you in unexpected directions.
